Hobbies and Interests:
Don and I enjoy traveling, seeing new places and meeting great people. We also enjoy dining out and working on our house. Yard work has been important and we really enjoy our garden. We also have a dog and her name is Phoebe. We’re not exactly sure who runs the household though…her or us!
I enjoy singing and have the pleasure of working with the Columbus Symphony Orchestra Chorus. As an ensemble, our highlight was singing in Carnegie Hall in April of 2001. I’ve actually sang with groups since I was in the 4th grade. Even throughout college, graduate school and all of my professional jobs, I have always sung with the choirs of the college or university. It was also a great way to meet students too…
Favorite TV Show or Movie:
A couple TV Shows come to mind…West Wing, Desperate Housewives, Commander in Chief. Our guilty pleasure has to be the Real World. We keep justifying it by saying, “it’s a great way to be reminded what our students are like!”
Favorite Food:
I would say my favorite food has to be Italian.
Favorite Motto/Quote:
A small group of thoughtful people could change the world. Indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has. –Margaret Mead
What being a member of the GLACUHO organization means to you:
The biggest effect that GLACUHO has had on me is helping to establish a professional identity and challenge me to think about how I work with students. GLACUHO as an organization has the incredible power to help us connect with each other and seeks to empower us in ways that are perhaps unexplored. I have found my time with GLACUHO incredibly rewarding and at the same time challenging. The people I’ve met, the ideas I’ve been exposed to and the opportunities to give back to an organization that means so much has been incredible.
GLACUHO also has a way of tugging at your heart to see goodness in everyone and most importantly, showing you a strong professional path. The people that I have met have become some very close friends and colleagues. It’s truly like a second family to me and I am so grateful for opportunities such as GLACUHO to serve each other and ultimately our students.
Anything else you would like to share with the GLACUHO membership (i.e. family, children, aspirations, unknown facts about yourself, etc.)
My partner Don Stenta and I have been together for almost 15 years. He works at the John Glenn Institute for Public Service and Public Policy at OSU. One of my proudest moments of him is when he got his Ph.D. in Higher Education at OSU in 2001. He’s also been involved in student affairs and housing for many years.
We are both from New York State. Don is from Binghamton, NY and I am originally from the Rochester, NY area, but now call Columbus home. |
